Our congregational cross follows the design of a Celtic cross. It bears the letters SHSp... Sister of the Holy Spirit. The dove, symbolic of the Holy Spirit, hovers over two hearts... the caption below reads: "To my beloved and my beloved to me." Gifts of the Holy Spirit are named: wisdom, intelligence, strength, fear, science, piety, advise...

The rays of the energy of God radiate out from the work of the Holy Spirit transforming the heart of each SHSp. The base of the cross holds an image of Mary, the mother of God. The congregation holds the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate as its patrons.

Our symbol is derived from the history of our beginnings.Margaret Mary attended Mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Pentecost Sunday... the feast of the Holy Spirit. The priest, Fr. Maloney, an Oblate of Mary Immaculate read a letter from the Bishops of the United States asking the Catholic Church to reach out to the African American Community. Margaret Mary connected the feast of Pentecost and the Oblate of Mary Immaculate and called her newly founded congregation, "Sisters of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate."
