Celebrating our 125th anniversary

This year, 2018, the Sisters of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate celebrate their 125th anniversary as a congregation of religious women.  The 125th anniversary committee has planned several events to commemorate the founding in 1893 in San Antonio, Texas.  The community was founded by Mother Margaret  Mary Healy Murphy in answer to a call and a request from the Bishops of the U.S. to educate the newly freed slaves.

The year of celebration started December 30, 2017, with a day of retreat.  Nearly all of the Sisters gathered at the Motherhouse. The Sisters in Zambia gathered at our house in Mongu.  The Sisters spent the day praying and reflecting on the blessings they have received over the years as a congregation and individually.  They also prayed and reflected about the future and what God is calling them to do for God’s people.   In the evening the Sisters celebrated with a special meal in the dining room which was enjoyed by all.
