Celebrating Our 2018 Jubilarians

The Sisters of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate held a celebration June 1, 2018, for the jubilarians this year. Three Sisters are celebrating 70 years of profession: Sisters Magdalen Kilbane, Mary Walsh and Gabriel Hession. Sister Marian Murray is celebrating 60 years.

The celebration started a few days before June 1 as family members and friends of the sisters began to arrive. Several came from overseas: Ireland, England and Australia. Others came from Boston, New York, Tacoma, Chicago and places in North Carolina. The joy was palpable as the reunions took place at our Motherhouse at 300 Yucca St. San Antonio, TX.

The celebration June 1 was a happy event from start to finish. The jubilarians were decked out in their finest. Each one received a beautiful corsage to wear. The Mass and reception were held at nearby Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and hall. The Sisters’ choir was ready. The musicians were Mr. Karl Graf and Sister Teresa Nasche. Sr. Mary Fagan was our song leader. Father Kevin Fausz was the celebrant. Bishop Charles Grahmann concelebrated. Some Sisters and family members performed various roles during the Mass. It was joyful.

The Holy Redeemer Hall had been decorated by Sisters Miriam and Vera. Banners and ribbons brightened the hall. After the Sisters and guests found their places the dinner was served. Everyone enjoyed the food and the company. There were lots of conversations as guests moved around and took pictures.

The jubilarians all expressed their gratitude for the wonderful celebration. The Holy Spirit Sisters are very grateful to Sisters, Magdalen, Mary, Gabriel and Marian for their many years of service to the people they worked with and ministered to in many places.
